Canada
John Molson’s Montreal brewery of 1786 is Canada’s oldest brewing business, and Molson, Labatt and Sleeman, now owned by Molson Coors, AB InBev and Sapporo, brew most of its beer, a pale lager Canadians call North American lager. Moosehead, founded in 1867, is the largest brewery still in Canadian hands. Craft brewing began in British Columbia in the 1980s, and Quebec’s brewers, from Unibroue to Dieu du Ciel!, took up Belgian styles. Canadian beer tells the story.
