Great Western Brewing Company

Great Western brewery building (former Papst Brewing, 1927) at 519 Second Avenue North, Saskatoon

The Saskatoon brewery opened in 1927 and passed through several owners until the 1989 merger of Carling O’Keefe and Molson, after which the new company planned to close it. Sixteen employees and managers pooled their money and bought it, and Great Western has brewed since 1990; its Original 16 beers are named after them. In 2025, its 35th year, it began a $25 million expansion with a German-built brewhouse, replacing equipment from 1954. The city lists the building as a heritage landmark.
