Great Lakes Brewery
Bruce Cornish started the brewery in 1987 in a Brampton industrial unit, brewing from malt extract. When the money ran out, the Etobicoke builder Peter Bulut Sr. bought it in 1990 or 1991 and moved it to Toronto, switching to all-grain brewing. His children took over the running in 2009 and started monthly experimental Project X nights; Peter Bulut Jr. became president after his father died in 2010. Canuck Pale Ale won its first Canadian Brewing Awards gold, and Great Lakes won brewery of the year at the awards twice in a row in the mid-2010s. Almost all its beer is sold in Ontario, and it opened a downtown brewpub in 2022.
