Ukraine
Three groups brew most of Ukraine’s beer: Obolon, still Ukrainian-owned, Carlsberg Ukraine, the owner of Lviv Brewery, and AB InBev Efes Ukraine, the brewer of Chernihivske. Beside them stand family brewers such as Mykulynetskyi Brovar, which claims 1497 against Lviv’s 1715, and Opillia in Ternopil. Radomyshl’s wheat beer won gold at the 2004 World Beer Cup, and craft brewers such as Pravda, Varvar and MOVA now sell in EU countries. Zhytomyr region grows most of the country’s hops. Ukrainian beer today covers the brewers now, and From mead to Obolon the thousand years before them.
