Mykulynetskyi Brovar
The brewery in Mykulyntsi, near Ternopil, claims to be Ukraine’s oldest. Austrian archives first record it in 1698, but it now gives 1497, from Polish records of Mykulyntsi beer sent to King John I Albert on his Moldavian campaign, an older claim than Lviv Brewery’s 1715. Privatised in 1993, it belongs to the Troian family. It makes its own malt from local barley, pasteurises none of its beer, brews Kaltenberg Spezial for König Ludwig of Germany and also distils whisky. Mykulyn is its best seller, followed by Mykulynetske Medove, a honey beer.
