Peru
Two Americans founded Backus in Lima in 1879, and today, as part of AB InBev, it brews more than 80% of Peru’s beer: Cristal, Cusqueña and Pilsen Callao, whose Callao brewery dates from 1863. Craft brewing is young: Barbarian of Lima started in a garage in 2009, and Cervecería del Valle Sagrado near Cusco, Peru’s most awarded craft brewer, uses squash, cacao and other Andean produce. Beer from the Andes to the Caribbean tells the story.
