Marston's (Burton)
Marston’s brewery in Burton upon Trent dates from 1834, and its Pedigree, a bitter of 1952, was the last beer fermented in the Burton Union system: rows of linked oak casks whose froth and yeast run off through swan-neck pipes into a trough. The union sets were retired in January 2024; two stay in Burton and one went to Thornbridge. Marston’s merged its brewing with Carlsberg in 2020 and sold its last share in 2024, and the business is now Carlsberg Britvic. On 8 October 2026 Carlsberg Britvic proposed closing the brewery in 2027. Old Empire is a BJCP English IPA, and Owd Roger an old ale.
