Żywiec
Archduke Albrecht Friedrich Habsburg had the brewery built from 1852, and 1856, when the firm was registered, counts as its founding. Its head brewer Juliusz Wagner wrote the porter recipe first brewed in 1881, and the dancing couple on the label dates from 1956. Nationalised in 1945 and privatised in the early 1990s, Żywiec has been controlled by Heineken since 1994, and the group left the Warsaw stock exchange in 2023. Żywiec Porter is one of the BJCP’s classic Baltic porters.
