D. G. Yuengling & Son

David G. Yuengling, a German brewer whose name anglicises Jüngling, founded the brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, in 1829. It is the oldest brewing company still operating in the United States. Each generation buys the business from the one before; Dick Yuengling Jr. is the fifth, and his four daughters work in the company. Traditional Lager, an amber lager revived in 1987, makes up about 80% of output; in much of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware a bar pours it when you ask for a lager. Yuengling brews in Pottsville, at nearby Mill Creek and in Tampa. A joint venture with Molson Coors brews it for new states, about 30 in all by 2026, while the family keeps the company. The Brewers Association ranks it the largest craft brewer in the country.
