Cervejaria Wäls
The brothers José Felipe and Tiago Carneiro founded Wäls in Belo Horizonte in 1999, first brewing for their family’s restaurants. In 2012 they brewed a saison with sugar-cane juice with Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn, and at the 2014 World Beer Cup Wäls Dubbel won gold and its Quadruppel silver. Ambev took over Wäls in 2015, joining it to Bohemia; the first joint beer was Saison d’Alliance, a saison with sage, ginger and mint. The brothers left about three years later. In 2022 the brand moved its production to the Ateliê Wäls, its brewery and taproom in Belo Horizonte, but Untappd now lists it as no longer brewing, and its current status is unclear.
