Cervejaria Bohemia

Bohemia is claimed as Brazil’s first beer, made in Petrópolis since 1853 and the oldest still in production. German immigrants founded it; under Frederico Guilherme Lindscheid it was called the Imperial Fábrica de Cerveja Nacional, and after his death in 1898 the family formed the Companhia Cervejaria Bohemia. Antarctica bought it around 1960, so it passed to Ambev in 1999. Production left Petrópolis in 1998 for an Ambev plant in São Paulo state. Bohemia Escura, a Schwarzbier of Munich malts, followed in 2002, and a Weiss and an abbey-style Confraria after it. The old brewery reopened in 2012 as a museum, with paid tours and a nano-brewery where visitors watch the brewing.
