Löwenbräu

The long-used founding year 1383 is held to be wrong: a possible predecessor is first recorded in 1524 and the Löwenbräu name in 1746. By 1863 it was Munich’s largest brewery, and around 1900 the biggest in Germany. It joined Spaten in 1997, Interbrew, now AB InBev, bought the group in 2003, and the Munich brands are brewed in the old Löwenbräu brewhouse. Löwenbräu runs its own Oktoberfest tent; its Original is a Munich Helles and its Oktoberfestbier a Festbier.
