Köstritzer
The Köstritzer Erbschenke is first recorded in 1543, and the counts, later princes, Reuss took it over in 1696. The East German state nationalised it in 1948. The Bitburger group bought it in April 1991, launched Köstritzer Schwarzbier across Germany in 1993 and raised output from 145,000 to 879,000 hectolitres by 2005. Köstritzer Schwarzbier is a classic Schwarzbier, with about 30% of the German market for dark lager.
