Bitburger

Johann Peter Wallenborn founded the brewery in 1817, and his son-in-law Ludwig Bertrand Simon took over in 1842; the Simon family has run it since. Bitburger brewed its first Pilsener-style beer in 1883, and a 1913 ruling of the Reichsgericht, which let it sell a Pilsener over the objections of the brewers of Pilsen, made Pils a style name in Germany rather than a place of origin. The slogan Bitte ein Bit dates from 1951. The Bitburger group also owns Köstritzer. Its Premium Pils is a German Pils.
