Hofbräu München
Duke Wilhelm V set up the court brewery in 1589 so that his court no longer had to buy beer from Einbeck; in 1614 a brewer hired from Einbeck brewed the first Munich bock. The brewery passed to the Bavarian state in 1852, left the Platzl in 1896, and has brewed at Munich-Riem since 1988. It pours at the Oktoberfest and licenses Hofbräuhaus taverns abroad. Its Dunkel is a classic Munich Dunkel, its Münchner Weisse a Weissbier, its Maibock a helles bock and its Oktoberfestbier a Festbier.
