Founders Brewing Co.

Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers, both home brewers, set up the company in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1996 and 1997. Its strong stouts made its name: KBS, an imperial stout of 11.2% with coffee and chocolate aged in bourbon barrels in old gypsum mines nearby, and Breakfast Stout, an oatmeal stout. Centennial IPA and a porter stand beside them. Spain’s Mahou San Miguel bought 30% in 2014 and another 60% in 2019, and in March 2025 took the rest.
