BrewDog

James Watt and Martin Dickie, who had helped develop Jaipur at Thornbridge, founded BrewDog in Fraserburgh in 2007. It raised money from drinkers through its Equity for Punks share issues, moved to a brewery outside Ellon in 2013 and grew on provocative publicity, until reports on its workplace culture damaged the brand. After years of losses it went into administration, and in March 2026 the US company Tilray bought its UK brewing business, brand and 11 pubs for 33 million pounds. Punk IPA is its best-known beer.
