Augustiner-Bräu
Augustinian friars began the brewery in Munich; brewing is securely recorded from 1411, while the brewery’s own date of 1328 rests on an unproven report. After the friary was dissolved in 1803 it passed to private owners, and from 1829 to the Wagner family. Edith Haberland-Wagner left her majority stake to a charitable foundation, which holds just over 50% and keeps the brewery independent. Augustiner still pours its Oktoberfest beer from wooden barrels, does almost no advertising, and its Lagerbier Hell is a classic Munich Helles; its Oktoberfest beer is a Festbier.
