Weltenburger Kloster

Brewing at Weltenburg Abbey, on the Danube Gorge near Kelheim, is recorded for 1050, and the abbey calls it the oldest monastery brewery in the world. Since 1973 it has been part of the Bischofshof brewery of Regensburg, run by a foundation of the diocese. In January 2026 the two announced that Schneider Weisse will take over the Weltenburger and Bischofshof brands and the Weltenburg brewery from 1 January 2027, while Bischofshof’s Regensburg brewery closes; brewing at Weltenburg goes on. Its Barock Dunkel is a classic Munich Dunkel, and Anno 1050 a Märzen.
