Schwechater
A brewhouse was founded at Schwechat in 1632, and Franz Anton Dreher bought it in 1796. His son Anton Dreher studied at Spaten in Munich and Barclay Perkins in London, made pale malt the English way, and brewed bottom-fermented beer with yeast from Munich, lagered cold in his own cellars; the resulting beer of 1841 is the origin of the Vienna lager. The brewery is now part of Brau Union Österreich, owned by Heineken, and still brews a Wiener Lager.
