Ottakringer

The miller Heinrich Plank opened the brewery in 1837, and the Kuffner family built it into a large brewery from 1850. In 1938 the Jewish owner Moriz Kuffner was forced to sell. Ottakringer’s exit from the Austrian beer cartel in 1977 helped break it, and in 2009 it bought back Heineken’s stake, returning fully to Austrian ownership. Its Wiener Original is one of the BJCP’s classic Vienna lagers.
