Cervecería Kunstmann
Armin Kunstmann, a chemical engineer of German descent, set out to bring brewing back to Valdivia, whose Anwandter brewery the 1960 earthquake had destroyed. He brewed his first lager in 1991 and moved to the brewery and restaurant at Torobayo in 1996 or 1997; the Valdivia Bierfest began in the early 2000s. CCU bought half in 2002. Torobayo, an amber ale of 5%, is its flagship. Kunstmann also holds CCU’s stakes in smaller Chilean brewers, among them Guayacán and Mahina of Easter Island, and since 2014 has run a brewpub on the Bustillo road in Bariloche, Argentina.
