Deschutes Brewery
Gary Fish opened the Deschutes Brewery & Public House in downtown Bend, Oregon, in 1988, naming it after the river. It sold 310 barrels in its first year and 3,954 by 1992. The BJCP uses three of its beers as examples: Black Butte Porter for American porter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale for American pale ale and Obsidian Stout for American stout. The Abyss is its imperial stout. Deschutes is the tenth-largest US craft brewer. It brewed Costco’s Kirkland Signature beers for a time, a deal its chief executive said in July 2026 was ending.
