Cucapá
Mario García opened Cucapá as a brewpub in Mexicali in December 2002, naming it after the Cucapá people of the Colorado River delta. It brewed about 500 hectolitres in its first year, mostly for its own bar, before selling in Mexicali, Tijuana and San Diego. In August 2016 a subsidiary of Grupo Modelo became owner of the Cucapá and Chupacabras brands; García said the deal was needed for wider distribution. Chupacabras is an American pale ale, Border an American amber ale and Obscura an American brown ale. Where Cucapá is brewed in 2026 is not public.
