Brasserie Coreff

Jean-François Malgorn and Christian Blanchard, two former employees of the bank CMB who had trained from 1983 with the brewer Peter Austin at Ringwood in Hampshire, founded the Brasserie des deux rivières at Morlaix in 1985; the brewery calls it the first French microbrewery. Their first beer, Coreff, was a real ale in the British way, and its label carried a two-headed lion recalling Morlaix’s arms. In 1999 Christian Troadec, later mayor of Carhaix, bought the brewery, with Paul Bégot running its business side; it moved to Carhaix in 2005, and Matthieu Breton joined Bégot in 2008. Coreff now brews at Carhaix and at Liffré, near Rennes. Coreff Ambrée is its best-known beer.
