Bernard
Its founders bought the old Humpolec brewery, first recorded in 1597, at auction on 26 October 1991, for about five times its book value. Bernard filters its beer through a microfilter instead of pasteurising it, and malts its own barley in a floor maltings at Rajhrad, bought in 2000. The Belgian brewer Duvel Moortgat has owned half the company since July 2001. Josef Vávra, co-founder, head brewer and managing director, died on 16 August 2026. Bernard’s beers cover every Czech lager on this site, from the light 10 to the dark 12°.
