Allagash Brewing Company
Rob Tod founded Allagash in Portland, Maine, in 1995 because Belgian beer was hard to find in America, and started with Allagash White, a witbier brewed with wheat and Curaçao orange peel; the BJCP uses it as its example of the style. In 2007 Allagash built the first traditional coolship in the United States, an open pan where wort cools overnight and picks up wild yeast. Allagash White is the most-awarded witbier in the world, and the Tripel has won gold at the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup many times, most recently in 2025. Allagash was the festival’s brewery of the year in its category in 2021, 2023 and 2025. It was Maine’s largest craft brewer in 2024.
