St Austell Brewery

Walter Hicks started as a wine merchant and maltster in St Austell in 1851 and brewed his first beer about ten years later; his daughter Hester Parnall ran the company from 1916. Tribute, first brewed for the solar eclipse of 1999, now makes up about 80% of sales, and Proper Job is its IPA. St Austell bought Bath Ales in 2016 and runs more than 160 pubs across the South West; its chief executive calls it an independent brewer.
