Hartwall (Lapin Kulta)
Victor Hartwall founded the company in Helsinki in 1836 to make mineral water, the first such factory in the Nordic countries. It moved into beer from the 1960s by buying brands: Karjala in 1966, Aura in 1971 and Lapin Kulta in 1980. Scottish & Newcastle bought Hartwall in 2002, Heineken took it over in 2008, and Royal Unibrew bought it in 2013. All its beer comes from the Lahti brewery, opened in 2003; Lapin Kulta, first brewed at Tornio, moved there in 2010.
