Batemans

George Bateman, a farmer, sold his farm in 1874 to rent a brewery in Wainfleet, and in 1880 built a new one at Salem House; a derelict windmill became its trademark. In the 1980s half the family wanted to sell, and chairman George Bateman, his wife and their children bought out the others to keep it going. The BJCP lists Bateman’s XB as an ordinary bitter, Triple XB as a strong bitter and Salem Porter as an English porter.
